GPS IIR-17M - The Savior of the Military & the Civil GPS Users

According to the news delivered at November 6, 2007 a new GPS satellite has been confirmed to be installed that guarantees to deliver capabilities both to the military and civilian users. With its installation and the commencement of its operation, this GPS satellite is known to be the 4th in a series of the eight satellites that will benefit its users.

 

The GPS satellite is known to have been launched on the October 17 from the

Cape Canaveral. The combined U.S Air Force/Lockheed Martin team is known to have f=given a all clear afrter an orbit checkout. Better recognized as the GPS IIR-17M, this new GPS satellite is also a part of the Global positioning System Block IR (GPS IIR-M). It features an efficient antenna panel that promises to provide improved  signal power to the receivers placed on the ground, the two new military signal for better than before precision, anti-jamming abilities as well as the superior encryption to facilitate the military. It is also equipped with a second civil signal that will allow the users to benefit from an open access signal on a separate frequency. With the new GPS IIR-17M, global positioning, timing services and navigation is most likely to get better. The warfighters and the civil users are definitely among the gainers.

    so does this mean that it will be “free of use” to civilians & will be able to configure their GPS device to sync with the GPS IIR-17M ?
