If it takes you a while to find your way out of a maze, then imagine how much more complicated it is for the people who are suppose to cut out the maze as they would need to cut through a corn maze with only measurements in hand. For Skelly’s Farm Market, their very first maze was only less than 1 acre. But now that they have engaged the help of satellite technology, they are able to cut out mazes as large as 8 acres.
In the past, Skelly’s method involved transferring design from paper by counting rows, where space between one row equals to one square on his graph paper. Last year Skelly turned to technology and engaged the use of a GPS. Now he just needs to drive around the field and enter coordinates and then enter the electronic version of the design into a computer for it to be plotted on the maze field and loaded onto the GPS. And now all he needs to do is follow instructions from the GPS.
