And Now GPS on Golf Carts.

Who would have imagined that the whole GPS thing is getting into such a craze that now they are suggesting adding it to golf carts as well. At a new North County course, they are just doing that, with the Carlsbard City Council voting to place Global Positioning System devices in their 83 golf carts.

This is said to be able to advise players on how to shoot each hole and help them order lunch as well. Each of the GPS devices on the carts will be loaded with software to chart distances and other data on the course allowing users to know the distance of the ball from the green as well as distance of hazards and trees. This will help golfers visualize the shots from tees especially where the greens are not visible. However, one can’t help but to think if this isn’t cheating.

Other than that this system also helps keep golfers off areas which are off-limits as 200 of the course’s 400 acres of land consist of sensitive habitat. A panic button equipped on the GPS which sends signal back to the clubhouse also acts a safety measure in case of emergency when on the greens.
