Although GPS devices have gotten really cheap in the last times, making them affordable by almost everyone, there are still some of them which are out of reach for most us. This is a recopilation of the top 5 most expensive GPS gadgets. Well, I tried to get only one from each manufacturer, so maybe they are not the top 5, but rest assured they are not cheap.
Northstar 8000i ($5369.05)

Designed for use in boats, it has a touch screen from where to control all the functions. The GPS data is shown with a 3D bathymetricepr sentation and overlays of satellite photos. It has a radar and it can read data from sources like other GPS or NMEA. Not only this, but can also show cameras and instrumentation.
Of course, it has an entertainment system with DVD, video, CD and digital music player.
Raymarine E02013 E120 ($3899)

This one has 12.1 inch screen with 800 x 600 pixel resolution, and like the first one can integrate video and instrumentation, so you can see it’s also designed to use on a boat, specially if you go fishing as it has a digital fishfinder.
It’s waterproof and can stand from 14 to 122 degrees F and can show up-to-date animated weather forecasts.
Garmin GPSMap 5012 ($3383)

This one comes preloaded with maps from all over the world, with high resolution satellite images, and we can even add more detailed maps with the integrated SD memory card reader. It can show 3D mariner’s eye view and has an Autoguidance technology which avoids obstacles or shallow waters.
Delphi TNR800 ($1877)

This device is a in-dash navigation system for 2003-up Cadillac and GMC SUVs, so you can have an idea about it. It has a 6.5 inch touch screen and can control all the original functions of the vehicle like the XM Staellite radio, DVD player or CD changer.
It also gets the vehicle speed directly from the car system so it has better accuracy on places where GPS reception is low.
Compass Global 1000 ($325)

Well, this has a very lower price than the rest and looks more like a sneaker than a GPS device, but that’s what it is. This sneakers have an integrated GPS receiver which, in case of crisis, you can activate to send a signal to the company and to the police alerting of where you are.
On top of that price, you have to pay $19.99 each month for the service, so it could end up costing a lot more than the rest of devices.
