GPS system adding non-related features to stand out

PharosWashingtonPost is reporting that many GPS makers are adding features not related with GPS to make their systems stand out from the competition. So, more and more GPS systems can play MP3 files, videos, photos, can act as Bluetooth hands-free device or include hard disk drives to store movies or music.

Although this is good for the consumer, the problem is the cost of the systems which is not going down at the rate they would expect. Also, the size is sometimes not as compact as it could be.

Many consumers only want a basic system which can guide them, but only find expensive ones with features they won’t use.
